Norse Show Improvement in Wisconsin

Veronica Spreitzer pushing to finish the race

APPLETON, WI – For the first time this season the Bay College Cross Country Teams ran on consecutive weekends.  Putting themselves up against a field of four-year schools, the Norse continued to show improvement and discipline.

The women competed in a 6K race, the first of the season for Bay.  Hattie Cota (FR, Munising, MI) led the team with a time of 27:01.7.  Aleyna Wetthuhn (FR, Gladstone, MI) finished with a time of 30:05.  Veronica Spreitzer (FR, Escanaba, MI) and Leah Gould (FR, Engadine, MI) paced each other and ended just seconds apart, with Spreitzer recording a time of 30:26.4 and Gould posting a time of 30:28.7.  Devyn Lusardi (FR, Stephenson, MI) finished her day with a time of 32:14.7.

"The women got their first taste of 6K cross country distance," said Head Coach Scott Carhoun.  "Even though this is further than they are used to, they're splits throughout the race showed promise."

The men saw their three runners set their best 8K times of the season.  Freshmen Brent Lagina (FR, Norway, MI) and Dustin Brewster (FR, Manistique, MI) finished with personal best times.  Lagina finished with a time of 34:50.6 while Brewster was right behind him at 34:53.8.  Austin Watchorn (SO, Escanaba, MI) put up his best time of the year with a 40:02.7, just off his best pace from a year ago.

"Both teams showed improvements in their racing abilities today," concluded Carhoun.

The Norse will conclude their regular season schedule with a conference meet next weekend.  On Saturday they will run in Marian University's Ancilla College's meet in Donaldson, Indiana.
