Norse Cross Country Teams Ready for New Beginnings

ESCANABA, MI – The Bay College Cross Country Team will start the season under new direction as Scott Carhoun has both teams ready to compete at St. Norbert College in Green Bay on Saturday.

Carhoun, a Stephenson native, joins the Norse with 20 years of experience in the cross country and track world, and his wealth of knowledge and experience is already showing in his short time at Bay.  In a short timeframe he was able to build two teams around one returning athlete from last year's cross country teams.

The women's team was a total rebuild this year and will have all fresh faces.  The young team will include Hattie Cota (FR, Munising, MI), Leah Gould (FR, Engadine, MI),  Devyn Lusardi (FR, Stephenson, MI), Veronica Spreitzer (FR, Escanaba, MI), and Alayna Wetthuhn (SO, Gladstone, MI).

On the men's side the Norse return one runner, Austin Watchorn (SO, Escanaba, MI).  Dustin Brewster (FR, Manistique, MI), Brent Lagina (FR, Norway, MI), Matt LeClaire (FR, Gladstone, MI), and Matt Nelson (FR, Gladstone) will round out that roster.

"I love the dynamics of this team," said Carhoun.  "We have had a few late additions trickle in, and their teammates have been incredibly welcoming as they embrace them as one of the family."

The schedule features three conference meets this season.  On September 15 the Norse travel to Grand Rapids, on September 29 St. Clair County hosts an invitational, and on October 14 Bay will travel to Donaldson, IN to participate in the meet at Marian University's Ancilla College.  The Norse has one other nonconference meet on October 7 at Lawrence University in Appleton, WI.
