EAST LANSING, MI – The Bay Norse Cross Country teams opened their season on Friday at Michigan State.  Four women would end up scoring for the Norse, while three runners on the Men's side put up official times.

The harriers from Bay College faced hot and steamy conditions downstate, adding to the difficulty of running in a huge field of competitors.  Returning for her second season of action, Zoie Berg (SO, Gladstone, MI) would lead the women with a 6K time of 27:06.  Lauren Cousineau (FR, Escanaba, MI) would score in her first collegiate race, crossing the line with a time of 31:17.  She would be joined by two more women running their first collegiate race.  Lauren Peters (FR, Munising, MI) would finish with a time of 32:02, and Jody Peters (SO, Gladstone, MI) ended with a 34:33 time.

The Men would end with three runners scoring for them.  James Young (FR, Gladstone, MI) would pace the Norse with an 8K time of 33:07.  Connor Robinson (FR, Powers, MI) ended with a time of 34:49, while Steven Magnuson (SO, Cheboygan, MI) would finish with a time of 38:05.

"Today went well considering the conditions," said Norse Head Cross Country Coach Jim Murtha.  "Everyone gave their best effort, but it was very hot and humid by race time.  Our times are only going to keep getting better as the season goes on.  We are definitely looking forward to our home meet next weekend!"

The Quality Inn & Suites Invitational will be the next competition for the Norse on Saturday, September 22nd.  The race, hosted by Bay College, will begin at 10 AM.
