
ESCANABA, MI – The MCCAA announced the 2024 end of the year softball awards, and five Norse players received honors for their contributions during the season. Headlining the list is Sierra Jones (SO, Calgary, AB) who was named to the All-MCCAA Team and was the lone representative from Bay on the Northern Conference First Team.
Jones led the team with an impressive slash line, hitting for a .447 average, collecting a .511 on base percentage, and amassing a .776 slugging percentage. She led the team in hits (34), doubles (14), home runs (3), and RBI (20). Sierra walked 11 times in 90 plate appearances and struck out just three times during the season. She also scored 16 runs during the season.
Desiree Bender (SO, Sandusky, MI) was one of four Norse to be named to the Northern Conference Second Team. She played in all 27 games for the Norse and hit .329 for the season and had a .419 on base percentage. She led the team with 22 runs scored and had five doubles and two home runs. She also stole three bases. Desiree also pitched for Bay and appeared in 11 contests. She struck out 15 in 23.1 innings.
Hailee Duquaine (FR, Pulaski, WI) was also named the Northern Conference Second Team as well as the Northern Conference All-Freshman Team. She led the team in at bats with 92 and was second on the team with 29 hits. She had a .315 average and a .364 on base percentage. Hailee had two doubles and stole three bases. She was second on the team with 20 runs scored. She also appeared in nine games as a pitcher for Bay.
Zoe Rumble (SO, Blenheim, ON) got the honor of being on the Northern Conference Second Team. She was tied for second on the team with a .338 batting average and had a .472 on base percentage and a .535 slugging percentage. Zoe led the team in walks with 14 and had seven doubles, two triples, and a home run. She drove in 12 runs on the season. Rumble played in all 27 games for Bay.
Ava Mottin (SO, Williamston, MI) was the fourth Norse player named to the Northern Conference Second Team. She also played in all 27 games and was tied for second on the team with a .338 batting average. She also had a .429 on base percentage. Ava had 22 hits, nine RBI, eight walks, and scored 11 runs. She only struck out five times during the season.
The Norse finished the season with a 7-20 record under first-year Head Coach Christine Gosse. They were 7-13 in conference play.
