Norse Cross Country End Season at MCCAA Championship

Zac Rose battling an opposing runner to finish his race strong

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The Bay College Norse Cross Country Team finished 11th out of 12 teams in the MCCAA Men's Cross Country Championship on Saturday.

Bay just barely beat out North Central Michigan College 272-279 for the final spot in the race.  Lansing Community College finished all five of their scorers in the top ten to take a decisive team victory.

The teams faced some rough terrain as the course played out more difficult than earlier in the year when the Norse visited in September.  Softer conditions proved to be challenging, especially on hills.

For the Norse, Zach Rose (SO, Escanaba, MI) finished in 20th place.  His pace of 28:14.6 was just off his personal best set in his last race.

The trend continued for Bay as all of their runners were just off their paces from a few weeks ago.  Jahlani Thornton (SO, Detroit, MI) finished in 50th place with a time of 31:17.9.  Jaylen Flaniken (SO, Troy, MI) ended his day with a time of 35:09.4, while Austin Watchborn (FR, Escanaba, MI) crossed the line with a time of 38:19.3.  The biggest drop off in time came from James Hughes (FR, Milwaukee, WI) who finished with a time of 38:53.0.

The race also served as the Region XII Championship.  The Norse finished as a team in last place out of 11 teams.  It also brings an end to the team portion of the Norse schedule, potentially wrapping up the season for Bay.
