Cross Country Runs First Race of Season

ESCANABA, MI – The Bay College Men's Cross Country Team kicked off their season in Grand Rapids as they finished 20 out of 25 teams on Saturday morning.

Veteran Zach Rose paced the Norse as he finished the 8K course in 28:19.8.  That time is just 13 seconds off of his personal best set at the National meet last season.  Jahlani Thornton finished with a time of 32:19.8.  Jaylen Flaniken and James Hughes ran a similar pace, with Flaniken crossing the line in 36:01.2 and Hughes following closely with a time of 37:46.6.  Austin Watchborn finished out the team scoring for Bay as he crossed with a time of 43.01.7.

Northwood (MI) won the meet with just 31 points.  Several MCCAA Conference teams took part with Lansing being the top amongst them.  They finished third with 91 points.  Bay finished 11 out of the 15 conference teams that ran.

The Norse will be back in action next week as they travel to Grayling for the Kirtland Community College Invitational.  That meet begins at 5:30 pm.
