ESCANABA, MI – The Bay College Men's Basketball team (5-3) pulled away from the Alpena Community College Lumberjacks (0-6) late in the first half and went to a 90-67-win Monday night on their home court.

The early portion of the game painted a back-and-forth struggle between the two teams, as Alpena repeatedly erased deficits to keep the game close.  The big break came with just over six minutes to play before the half.  With Bay leading by five, Marcus Harris (FR, Brimley, MI) hit a three-pointer, and the Norse defense went to work, allowing the home team to go on a run.  It would be over three minutes before the Lumberjacks would score again.  During that time period the Norse got a free throw from Christian Alexander (SO, Dorset, UK) and three-point baskets on three consecutive possessions from Ryan Robinette (SO, Escanaba, MI).  The run allowed Bay to turn a close game into a 17-point lead at halftime.

Alpena was never really able to get back into the game in the second half.  They cut the deficit to 14 with 8:30 remaining, but the Norse would shut down any attempts at a comeback.  The Norse attack stayed strong to the end, allowing them to stretch it out to a 23-point victory.

Bay forced 17 turnovers on the evening, while only turning it over seven times themselves.  The two teams matched each other rebounding-wise, grabbing 42 apiece.  The Norse shot 43.5% from the floor and hit twelve of 29 from three-point, while the Lumberjacks shot 36.9% and converted five of twenty from behind the three-point arc.

Robinette ended up hitting on seven of 13 from behind the three-point arc and scoring 25 points while grabbing five rebounds.  Chris Dobessi (FR, Detroit, MI) ended his night with 16 points, while Alexander scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to record a double-double.

Isaac Hogsett (SO, Kokomo, IN) led the Lumberjacks with 18 points.  Chris DeRocher (FR, Ossineke, MI) tallied a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

The Norse are on the road next weekend at the Lindquist Classic hosted by Gogebic Community College.  Bay will play Leech Lake Tribal College on November 30 at 4 pm, and then turnaround and play Vermilion Community College on December 1 at 1 pm.
