ESCANABA, MI – Norse Baseball's Micheal Rey (SO, Dunnellon, FL) was chosen as the MCCAA Northern Conference Player of the Week for his efforts during the week of April 21-27.
Bay hosted Muskegon Community College in a Northern Conference showdown on April 26 and 27 and Rey helped lead the Norse to a series win, taking three of the four games.
Rey started off the weekend with a two for two effort, including a double, an RBI, and three runs scored in an 11-1 route of the Jayhawks. He topped that effort in the second game of the doubleheader, hitting three triples in four at bats, driving home two runs and scoring three times. The Norse went on to win that game 8-4.
Rey picked up a hit and a walk in four plate appearances to start the day on Sunday, then helped the Norse bounce back from a loss with a two for four game in which he scored two runs.
For the week Rey collected eight hits in 13 at bats, one double, three triples, and three RBI's. He walked once and did not strike out. He also stole three bases. It was good for a .615 batting average, a .625 on base percentage, and a 1.154 slugging percentage.
The Norse will wrap up regular season play on May 3 and 4 with a crucial four-game series at Mid Michigan College. Bay will need to win three games to secure a postseason berth.
