SIDNEY, MI – The Bay College Norse Volleyball Team (11-15, 4-8 MCCAA) won a hard fought match against the Montcalm Community College Centurions (7-14, 3-8 MCCAA) by a score of 3-2, sealing their position as the four seed from the north in the 2023 Great Lakes Region Regional Tournament.

The Norse put together a strong attack in the first, picking up 14 kills with just four errors.  Leah Allan (SO, Oconto, WI) was good for five of those kills as she helped the Norse to a 28-26 win in the opening set.

The second and third sets saw Bay cool off allowing the host to take advantage.  On top of the most inefficient attacks of the night for the road team (.088 attack percent in the second, and .132 in the third), the Norse picked up four serving errors, four receiving errors, and two ball handling errors in the second set, and three more serving errors in the third.  The Centurions would take the second and third sets by identical scores of 25-19.

Bay got back on track in the fourth.  Piper Monroe (FR, Menominee, MI) finished four kills, while Olyvia Saxton (FR, Ithaca, MI) and Kylie Tadisch (SO, Coleman, WI) each added three as the Norse executed to the tune of a .242 attack percentage.  Bay went on to win another tight set, this time by a score of 25-23, forcing the decisive fifth set.

The Norse saved their best for last as they knocked down seven kills in 18 attempts and committed no attack errors in the final set to finally take control of the match.  The road team would run away with the final set by a score of 15-8 stealing a road win from Montcalm.

Monroe finished with a career-high 13 kills in the match, it was the first time she tallied double-digits in that category in her career.  She also ended with five assisted blocks and one solo block on the night.  Tadisch also had a strong showing, picking up nine kills, three solo blocks, and two assisted blocks.  Saxton finished with eight kills, three aces, and three assisted blocks.

Amber Caylor (SO, Wausaukee, WI) ended the night with 22 assists and two aces.  Reigning MCCAA Northern Conference Defensive Player of the Week Tori Jandt (SO, Peshtigo, WI) had 18 digs in the contest, while Allan finished with 17.

Bay will finish off their regular season schedule with a nonconference matchup at Gogebic Community College.  That match will be on October 21 at noon.
