Norse Split at Lindquist Classic

Madison Olsen reaches for the opening tip against a Morton player

IRONWOOD, MI – The Bay College Women's Basketball Team (5-3) split a pair of games at the Lindquist Classic hosted by Gogebic Community College this past weekend.  The Norse cruised to a 78-63 victory on Saturday over the host Gogebic Samsons (1-6).  The #15 ranked Morton College Panthers (8-2) proved to be too much for the Bay, as the Panthers rolled to an 84-38 win.

Bay jumped out to a big lead with a 17-2 run to open the game.  Hot shooting from deep translated to a 26-12 lead after the first quarter.

Gogebic found their footing in the second quarter and were able to close the gap, making it a five-point game at half.

The Norse opened up a lead once again to start the third, opening up a twenty-point lead.  Once again, the Samsons were not ready to go away, and they were able to cut the lead to nine.

Bay pulled away in the final frame, finally running away from their hosts.

The Norse had four players score in double digits.  Madison Olsen (SO, St. Ignace, MI) led with 16 points and seven rebounds.  Cheveney Koski (SO, Rock, MI) also ended with 16 points and grabbed five rebounds.  Kennedy Englund (SO, Rock, MI) contributed 15 points, five rebounds, and four assists, while Andie Arsenault (FR, Hermansville, MI) scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as well as dealing out four assists.

The Norse had no answers for Morton on Sunday.  The Panthers opened the game going up 13-0 and did not look back as they dominated from start to finish.

Morton held a 43-13 lead at halftime.

The Norse settled in during the second half and showed some production.  They shot 40.7% from the field and were able to work on some things, but the Norse were never able to close the gap.

The loss snapped a three-game win streak for the Norse.

Tianna Taylor (FR, Gwinn, MI) led Bay with nine points.  Koski added eight points and six rebounds.

The Norse will be on the road again next weekend as they travel to Macomb on Friday evening at 5 pm.  They finish the road trip with an afternoon tilt at Oakland Community College on Saturday.
