Norse Blow by Buccaneers

Haley Trudell shoots a layup

ESCANABA, MI – For the second straight night, the Bay College Women's Basketball Team (4-1) won by a wide margin, downing the UW-Green Bay, Marinette Buccaneers (2-2) by a final score of 88-35.

The full court pressure employed by the Norse paid off in a big way early on.  Bay College forced 13 turnovers in the first half, and opened the game on a 19-2 run.  The home team kept their foot on the gas, building a 29-4 lead by the end of the first quarter.

The Norse continued their relentless pace, building a 37-point lead at the half.  Marinette never found a way to get back into the game.  They turned the ball over 33 times in the contest, resulting in just 39 field goal attempts.  Though they would shoot a respectable 35.9%, their one for six from three-point, and only hitting on half of their twelve free throw attempts were not nearly enough to mount any sort of comeback.

Bay College enjoyed another strong shooting outing, hitting 52.5% of their shots.  They also converted ten of 18 from behind the arc.  The Norse won the rebounding battle, 35-27, including grabbing 16 offensive rebounds.  It helped Bay build a 58-point lead in the fourth quarter, and cruise to a comfortable victory.

Once again, the Norse were led by Haley Trudell (SO, Rock, MI) offensively.  She enjoyed a four for five night from behind the three-point line, and ended her night with 14 points.  Bay College spread the wealth with 13 different players scoring.  Kaitlyn Hardwick (SO, Gladstone, MI), Holly Wardynski (FR, Ontonagon, MI), and JuliAnn Wickman (SO, Felch, MI) finished with nine points apiece.  Wardynski dealt out five assists, while Keshia Davis (SO, St. Ignace, MI) led the team with seven rebounds.

UWGB-Marinette's Brianne Burnett (SO, Menominee, MI) led all scorers with 19 points.

Bay College will be on the road over the weekend, taking on Milwaukee Area Tech on Friday evening.  That game starts at 6 pm.  On Saturday they will visit Harper College for a 1 pm tip.
