IRONWOOD, MI – The Bay College Women's Basketball Team (9-5) would end up on top of a defensive battle in their only game of the Gogebic Winter Classic on Friday evening.  The Norse would defeat the Western Tech Cavaliers (5-5) for a second time this season, this time by a final score of 43-33.

The two teams met up earlier this year at Bay College, and the Norse would score 78 points in that matchup.  This time around the two teams combined would add up to just 76 points, as the defenses frustrated scoring efforts all game long.  The first quarter would end with the Cavaliers holding on to an 8-5 lead, but Bay College would flip that script in the second quarter.  The Norse would score 13 in the second quarter, and lead 18-13 at intermission.

The third quarter mimicked the first, as Western Tech would outscore Bay 8-6 in that period.  Both teams would have their highest scoring output in the final quarter, with Bay pulling away at the end.  The Cavaliers would shoot just 18.5% from the floor in the game, including hitting just one of 19 three-point attempts.  Bay would convert 26.9% of their shots.  They would connect on four of 16 from behind the three-point arc.  Turnovers would haunt both offenses, as Western Tech would commit 30 turnovers, while the Norse would turn the ball over 32 times.

Jordan Kraemer (SO, Norway, MI) would end the matchup as the leading scorer.  She would record a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.  The Cavaliers would get 11 points and four rebounds from Kerrigan Lyga (Cochrane-Fountain City, WI).

The win continues a five-game win streak for the Norse and will bring to a close their first semester.  Bay College will enter their Holiday break with a 9-5 record.  They return to action on December 29 and 30 when they host the Quality Inn & Suites Holiday Classic.  On December 29 they will match up with Alpena Community College at 6 PM.  On December 30 they will host Milwaukee Area Technical College at 2 PM.
