Norse Calm the Storm

MILWAUKEE, WI – The Bay College Women's Basketball team (8-5) would win their fourth straight game on the road Saturday afternoon.  They would defeat the Milwaukee Area Technical College Stormers (2-9) by a final score of 75-61.

The Norse would get control early, combatting an early Stormer lead.  They would end the first quarter up seven.  Bay College would shut down the MATC offense in the second quarter, changing the complexion of the matchup.  The Norse would outscore their host 25-8 during that period, opening up a 24-point lead at the half.

The Stormers would adjust and cut into that lead in the second half, but the deficit proved to be too much.  The Norse would shoot the ball well inside, hitting on 49.1% of their shots, but they would struggle from deep, hitting just one of 12 attempts from behind the arc.  On the other hand, Milwaukee Area Tech would shoot 39.6% overall, but hit 13 of 32 three-point attempts, good for 40.6%.  Bay College would get their biggest advantage on the free throw line.  They would toe the charity stripe 29 times, converting 22 of those attempts.  Meanwhile the Stormers would get just 12 free throws, and only make six of them.  The Norse would also outrebound their opponents 38-29.

"We had a great energy in the second quarter, but came out after the half a little flat," said Head Coach Rob Robinson.  "It was good to see the team come together to finish the game.  Five games in eight days has been tough on them both mentally and physically, but we were still able to keep up our pressure and pull out the win."

Bay College would be led by Jordan Kraemer (SO, Norway, MI), who scored 22 points, collected eight rebounds, and tallied three assists, and three steals.  Taylor Hunter (FR, Gladstone, MI) would add 15 points.  Ten different Norse players would contribute in the scoring column.

MATC's Sophia Valero (FR, Milwaukee, WI) would lead all scorers with 26 points, while also collecting four rebounds, four assists, four steals, and two blocks.  Nae-Tajah Maxey (FR, Milwaukee, WI) would add 16 points off the bench.

The Norse will be at the Gogebic Winter Classic next weekend.  On Friday they will faceoff with Western Tech at 3 PM.  That will be a rematch of the November 17 game in Escanaba that Bay College won by a score of 78-62.  On Saturday they will meet up with Leach Lake Tribal College at 11 AM.
