Norse Pull Away In Second Half

Jordan Kraemer leading a fast break

ESCANABA, MI – The Bay College Women's Basketball Team (6-5) would use a big third quarter to seal the victory on Wednesday evening.  The Norse would defeat the Alpena Community College Lumberjacks (0-4) by a final score of 87-60.

In the early going the game would feature four ties and four lead changes as the two battled for control.  Down by one with eight minutes to play in the second quarter, the Norse would finally take the advantage.  A 10-0 run over the next four and a half minutes would give Bay College a lead they would never surrender from that point on.  The Norse would look to be comfortably in control at the half, leading by a score of 44-31.

The home team would come out red hot after the break and put an end to any doubt about the outcome.  The Norse would go ten for 19 from the field in the third quarter, which included hitting on four of seven attempts from behind the three-point arc.  Bay would continue to shoot it well in the final period, building their lead 36 with just over five minutes remaining in the game.

It would end up being one of the best shooting nights for the Bay so far this season.  The Norse would shoot 46.8% from the field, and connect on nine of 18 from three.  They also excelled at attacking the rim, and would go to the free throw line 28 times, converting twenty of those attempts.  In the end it would be the stellar second half shooting performance that would allow Bay to cruise to a 27-point victory.

"I am proud of our players and the effort they put forth," said Head Women's Basketball Coach Rob Robinson.  "We moved the ball well and were able to get the ball to players where they could be comfortable.  The more confidence our team plays with, the more they will improve every day."

Jordan Kraemer (SO, Norway, MI) would lead all scorers with 23 points.  She would add five rebounds, six steals, and four assists to her stat line for the night.  Kelsea Ackerman (FR, Munising, MI) would hit on four of five attempts from deep, good for 12 points.  Paige Welch (SO, Bark River, MI) would end her night with ten points.

Kyra Feighner (FR, Greenville, MI) would lead the Lumberjacks with 13 points.  Taylor Livingston (FR, Lincoln, MI) added 11 points and five rebounds, while Dakota Prevo (FR, Herron, MI) would score 11 points and grab eight rebounds.

The Norse are back on the road and will travel to Illinois to take on Harper College on Friday evening.  That game starts at 4 PM.  They will then make a stop to challenge Milwaukee Area Technical College on Saturday afternoon at 1 PM.
