PORT HURON, MI – The Bay College Norse (5-5) would bounce back from their worst loss of the season the night before, making a furious comeback in the final minutes to take a 57-52 win over the St. Clair County Skippers (2-5) on Saturday afternoon.

The Skippers would take control early, jumping out to a 10-0 lead.  The Norse would finally get on the board with about four and a half minutes remaining in the first quarter.  After finding themselves down 11, Bay College would finally make a run of their own, closing the quarter on an 8-2 run and finding themselves down just four.

The two teams would continue to go back-and-forth throughout the second quarter, with St. Clair County staying in control for most of the period.  The Norse would grab the lead briefly midway through the second quarter, but the Skippers would grab it right back and hold on to it.  The Norse would trail by three at intermission.

The second half would be more of the Skippers seemingly in control as they slowly built a lead.  They would see their lead extend to double digits multiple times in the fourth quarter.  St. Clair County would hold a ten-point lead as late as four minutes left in the game.  They would however go cold late, as they would not hit a shot from the field after the 4:36 mark.  The Norse would take advantage and close the lead.  With 1:32 on the clock, Paige Welch (SO, Bark River, MI) would knock down a three-point basket that would pull the Norse to within four points.  After a timeout, Jordan Belleville (SO, St. Ignace, MI) would steal the ball out of the full court press, and immediately convert it with a layup.  Down two, the Norse would put the Skippers on the line, and they would only convert on one of their two attempts.  Bay College would get a layup on the following possession by Jordan Kraemer (SO, Norway, MI), and once again a turnover would prove to be a big swing for the Norse.  The Skippers would send Kramer to the line, and she would hit both attempts to give the Norse back the lead.  Conversely, the Skippers would get two free throw attempts on the very next possession and fail to convert either of them.  That would force the host team to put Bay on the free throw line the rest of the way out, and the Norse would convert, stealing a five-point win.

"I am super proud of the character of the team that showed up," said Head Coach Rob Robinson.  "Especially after being down 11 points in the fourth quarter, it would have been easy for them to give up after last night, but they stuck together and pulled it out."

Kramer would lead the Norse scoring-wise, hitting on ten of ten free throw attempts and ending her night with 16 points and seven rebounds.  Keisha Davis (FR, St. Ignace, MI) would add ten points and seven rebounds to the effort.

Emily Flieschman (SO, Reese, MI) would lead all scorers with 20 points.  Brooke Junuad (SO, Center Line, MI) would add 14 points, while Keishawna McGruder (FR, Bendle, MI) scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds.

The Norse will return home to host Alpena Community College on Wednesday.  That game is scheduled to tip at 6 PM.
