NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC – The Bay College Softball Team (0-5) entered their off day of their spring break trip still searching for the first win of the season, dropping their first five games of the season.

After being rained out on Saturday, the Norse started their season Sunday morning against the Monroe Community College Tribunes (4-2).  Amara Martinez (FR, Freeport, TX) and Izzy Drabant (SO, Sandusky, MI) led off the game with a pair of singles for the Norse and would score on a pair of wild pitches, giving Bay a 2-0 lead.  Monroe answered back with three consecutive two-out singles to tie the game in the bottom half.

Monroe mounted another two out rally in the second, scoring on an error that extended the frame and then executing a double steal.  Errors by the Norse would mar the third inning as well, allowing the Tribunes to take a 6-2 lead.

A four run fourth would open up a big lead for Monroe.  Bay plated a run in the fifth off of an error, but Monroe put the game away in the bottom of the fifth, winning by a final of 11-3.

The Norse collected just four hits in the affair.  Zoe Rumble (SO, Blenheim, ON) was credited with a triple.

Drabant took the loss, despite only three of the 11 runs being earned.  She struck out six and walked five in the game.

Bay continued their opening day with a showdown against Harford Community College Fighting Owls (1-1).

A two-RBI double in the top of the second put Harford in the lead.  Bay answered back in the bottom half as Allie Radcliffe (FR, Republic, MI) doubled to drive in Rumble, but the inning ended with Radcliffe being thrown out trying to extend the hit into a triple.

The Fighting Owls answered back in the third, starting the inning with a triple, a double, and a single to double their score.  An error later in the inning would add a fifth run, putting Bay down five.

The Norse would never really get anything going and Harford added runs in the fifth and sixth to take a 9-1 victory.

Radcliffe's double ended up being the only hit for Bay in the contest.  Drabant took the loss in four innings of work, giving up five runs, four earned, six hits, and two walks, while striking out two.  Desiree Bender (SO, Sandusky, MI) pitched the final two innings.

The Norse returned to action on Monday and met up with Southeastern Illinois College (7-6).  SIC took control early, plating three runs in the first and two in the second.

Bay would be down by eight before they were able to respond.  Martinez singled to lead off the fourth, stole second, and scored on an error.  Lexie Resseguie (FR, Fort Collins, CO) scored later in the inning after a single to center and coming to the plate on a wild pitch.  Bay threatened in the seventh, but left two on and would fall by a final of 11-2.

Resseguie finished the game with a pair of hits in three at bats.  Hailee Duquaine (FR, Pulaski, WI) also ended up two for three.  Radcliffe took the loss for Bay.

Lincoln Trail College (2-3) was the next up for the Norse, and once again Bay found themselves down big early.

After an error to start the game, a one-out double plated the first run of the game for Lincoln Trails, and then scored a second run on a sacrifice fly.  A pair of errors in the second added a run, and a fourth run would come across in the third before Bay was able to answer.

Bay got on the board in the fourth when Duquaine singled with two outs to bring Bender to the plate.  Bay left two on in the fifth, but could not bring another runner around.  They would fall 7-1.

The Norse mustered just one hit in the game.  Drabant went the distance in the pitching circle, and just four of the runs were earned, while she walked one and struck out one.

The Norse picked up a third game on Monday to makeup for the two rainouts earlier in the week.  The Kaskaskia College Blue Angels (3-4) were added to the schedule and proved to be the best matchup for Bay to date.

The Blue Angels took the first advantage in the third.  After drawing a pair of leadoff walks, they would score the first run of the game on a ground out to short.  A two-out single would make it a two-run advantage for Kaskaskia.

Bay was given a chance to answer in the fourth when Lincoln Trails committed two fielding errors.  With two outs Ava Mottin (SO, Williamston, MI) came up with a pinch hit single to center to drive in a run.  Unfortunately, the runner from first was gunned down trying for third, and the Norse had to settle for a 2-1 score in favor of the Blue Angles.

That score carried into the seventh.  Bay led off the top half with a single from Duquaine, and got a double from Radcliffe to put the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position with one out.  After a strikeout, Sierra Jones (SO, Calgary, AB) hit a sharp groundball to short which was misplayed, allowing both runs to score, giving Bay their first lead of the game.

The Blue Angels responded with a pair of singles to lead off the bottom half.  A sacrifice fly to left tied the game.  Bay was an out away from forcing extra innings, but the next batter was hit by a pitch.  Kaskaskia was then able to walk it off with a single to center, handing the Norse their fifth loss by a score of 4-3.

Bay continues their trip with a matchup against Glen Oaks Community College at 9 am on Wednesday.  They will follow that up with a rematch against Kaskaskia at 11 am.
