Heidi Charon Steps Down as the Norse Head Coach

Heidi Charon

ESCANABA, MI – Head Softball Coach Heidi Charon has resigned her position with the program.  Charon was the first softball coach in school history.

"I've had an amazing time coaching the Norse Softball Team the last four years," said Charon.  "We have been blessed to have some really amazing athletes come through the program, and I've been honored to have the opportunity to coach every single one of them.  Coaching softball will always be a passion of mine, but it's time for me to give my family my undivided attention.  I look forward to watching the program continue to grow from the other side of the fence."

Charon was tabbed as the first ever coach in program history in 2018, with the program starting competition in the spring of 2019.  In three full seasons at the helm (including the shortened 2020 Season) she helped the Norse amass a 54-45 record.  Bay has also been the Runner-Up in the NJCAA Division 2 Region 13 Tournament in 2019 and 2021.

Bay College President, Dr. Laura Coleman, reflected on Coach Charon's tenure as the Softball Coach.  "Bay College has great appreciation for the work that Heidi Charon did for the program.  Coach Charon did a fantastic job launching Norse Softball.  We definitely appreciate all of her efforts and time.  She has proven to be a great coach and great leader."

Norse Softball competes at the NJCAA Division 2 level.  They are a member of Region 13, which consists of eight division 2 teams.  Bay College does not have a conference affiliation.

"I fully respect Coach Charon's decision and have accepted her resignation," Athletic Dirctor Matt Johnson said.  "Coach Charon has done an incredible job building the foundation to championship level softball program at Bay, and I thank her and her family for the dedication and effort that they have given to our student-athletes and our college."

Bay College has begun a national coaching search for the position.  Applications must be submitted online.  The posting can be found at careers.baycollege.edu.
