Norse Softball Drops a Pair

CHAIN OF LAKES, FL – The Bay College Softball Team (1-3) dropped a pair of games to the Triton College Trojans (2-1).  The Norse lost by scores of 10-2 and 13-1 in their opening games of their Florida Trip.

The Norse took an early in the first when Lexi Challier (SO, Escanaba, MI) doubled to lead off the game and she scored on an error later in the inning.

The Trojans answered back with a two RBI double in the bottom half by Celeste Boshold (SO, Elmwood Park, IL). 

Challier led off the third with another double.  Korey Kaukola (SO, Champion, MI) drove her in with an infield single, but the Norse left runners on second and third in the inning.

Triton answered back in the next half inning.  They led off with three consecutive singles.  After a steal of home, a fourth single in the inning with one out put the Trojans up 5-2.

Triton added two more in the fourth and three runs in the fifth to seal the victory.

Alyssa Stramaglia (SO, Melrose Park, IL) took the win on the mound.  She pitched five innings and struck out nine, while giving up just one earned run on three hits.

Karlie Patron (FR, Ishpeming, MI) got tagged for seven earned runs off of 12 hits in four innings of work and took the loss.

Challier was two for three with two runs scored.

Boshold was four for four with two doubles and five RBI.

The Norse were limited to just three hits in the night cap and fell behind early. 

Triton hit four homeruns in the game, and took a 4-0 lead in the second.  A three-run third and five runs in the fourth put the game out of reach for the Norse.

Samantha Richardson (FR, Melrose Park, IL) and Kaley Kirkwood (SO, Franklin Park, IL) each hit homeruns in the game, while Geneva Pollman (SO, Bartlett, IL) hit two in the game.

Kirkwood got the win, going all five innings and giving up the one earned run.

Hannah Edington took the loss, giving up nine hits and five earned runs over three and two thirds.

Kirkwood was three for four with five RBI.  Samantha Nelson (FR, Chicago, IL) ended up three for three with four RBI.

Riley Arndt (FR, Bark River, MI) was one for one with an RBI.

The Norse continue their southern swing with a doubleheader against Lincoln Trails Community College on Sunday.  First pitch is scheduled for 10 am.
