Johnson Named BCAM Coach of the Year

ESCANABA, MI – Bay College Men's Basketball Coach Matt Johnson was named the 2023Men's Junior College Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM) Coach of the Year.

Johnson led the Norse to a 26-6 record of the course of the 2022-2023 season.  It included an impressive 16-game winning streak that spanned from January 11 to March 4.  Bay College was ranked #20 in the final NJCAA Division 2 poll based off the strong performance throughout the season.

Sandwiched in that incredible winning streak was the first ever season for the Norse in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association.  Bay College ran the table against the MCCAA Northern Conference, securing a conference championship and undefeated record.

The Norse saw their winning streak come to an end in the MCCAA Championship game as they fell to the #3 ranked Henry Ford College Hawks.  Bay saw their magical season draw to an end as the Region 12 Runners-Up after falling to #18 Mott Community College on their home floor.

The 2022-2023 campaign ended up being Johnson's best at Bay College so far, besting 2017-2018's record of 22-7.  It also saw the Norse Men's Basketball Program win their 100th game since returning to Bay with an 86-50 win over Alpena Community College at home on January 25.
