LYNWOOD, IL – The top ranked team in NJCAA Division 2 flexed their muscle and pulled away in the second half on Sunday afternoon.  The South Suburban College Bulldogs (4-0) cruised to a 94-52 win over the Bay College Norse (1-6).

Both teams started off cold out of the gates, as the score was knotted at four as the clock ticked under 15 minutes to play in the first half.  The Bulldogs started to gain some traction, and jumped out to a 10-4 lead, but the Norse continued to fight.

Ashton Janke (FR, Dollar Bay, MI) hit a three-pointer to pull Bay to within three.  Jaden Janke (FR, Dollar Bay, MI) followed that with a jumper and a three on consecutive possessions, and the Norse were down 17-14 late in the first half.

Fouls caught up with the Norse and helped South Suburban start to build a lead.  The Bulldogs would get to the charity stripe an astounding 28 times in the first half, connecting on 18 of those attempts.  Meanwhile the Norse got to the line 14 times, but could only convert seven.  That led to the home team being up 41-28 at the half.

The second half momentum swung towards the Bulldogs and stayed there.  The Norse offense struggled to find any rhythm, while the South Suburban team began to open up an insurmountable lead.

The Norse were plagued with 24 turnovers in the contest and were outrebounded 58-37.  While they did shoot 31% from the floor for the game, Bay struggled from deep, hitting on just four of 25 attempts from behind the arc, including a one for eleven effort in the second half.  The Norse left points on the free throw line, connecting on just 12 of their 24 attempts.  Meanwhile the Bulldogs got to the charity stripe 43 times, converting 30 of them.

Savion Gray (FR, Detroit, MI) led the Norse with 17 points and five rebounds.  Jaden Janke ended his afternoon with ten points and five rebounds.

South Suburban had five players finish in double figures.  Deshwandre Washington (SO, Chicago, IL) earned a double-double, scoring 19 points, grabbing 17 rebounds, and six assists.  Chance Love (SO, Matteson, IL) just missed a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds, while Ishmael Martin (SO, Chicago, IL) also added 18 points.

Milwaukee Area Technical College will make the trip to Escanaba on Wednesday evening.  That game is scheduled to tip at approximately 7:30 pm.  Due to safety concerns fans will not be allowed to attend the game, but the game will be streamed live.  The link can be found at www.baynorse.com on the schedule page.
