Men's Basketball Can't Keep Up With the Trojans

Matt Wagner watches the three-point attempt he just released as other players start to turn toward the basket and the crowd looks on

RIVER GROVE, IL – For the second consecutive day, the Norse Men's Basketball Team (0-2) could not keep pace with the Triton College Trojans (2-0) as they fell on the road by a final score of 98-55.

Bay College was plagued by a horrendous shooting effort in the first half, hitting just six of 24 from the field and only one of eight from the free throw line.  The game began in a similar fashion to the night before, as the Norse surrendered a big run and were unable to mount a response to the opening attack.  It took more than seven minutes for Bay to get their first field goal.

Meanwhile the high-paced Trojan offense was triggering on all cylinders.  They shot 50% from the floor in the first half and got to the free throw line 17 times in the first 20 minutes but were only able to hit seven of those attempts.  Despite that Triton took a comfortable 44-14 lead into the locker room at the half.

Bay found a rhythm offensively in the second half and was able to match Triton for most of the period.  The Norse hit 44.1% of their shots in the second half, including nine three-pointers on 25 attempts.

They were not able to find a way to slow the Trojans down as the home team was even more impressive in the latter half.  They hit on 19 of 32 attempts, good for 59.4%.  They also stepped up their shooting from outside, draining seven of 12 attempts from beyond the arc.

The Norse were once again plagued by turnovers and were credited with 28.

Matt Wagner (SO, Marinette, WI) hit three three-pointers and ended the game with 11 points for the Norse.

The Trojans had six players end with double-digits in points.  Kejuan Clements led all scorers with 18 points.

The Norse will look for their first win as they take on another tough opponent on Saturday.  They will square off with Milwaukee Area Technical College at a place that is yet to be determined.
