Norse Win 20th on the Road

Kobi Barnes tries to get to the basket with a defender in his way

SUPERIOR, WI – The Bay College Norse (13-11) would hold off the UW-Superior Yellowjackets JV team in Superior on Friday night.  The Norse would take the 75-63 victory, their 20th win of the season.

A 15-0 run that started midway through the first half would put the Norse ahead for good and would lead to their biggest lead of the game when they would enjoy a 39-24 lead with 2:09 remaining in the first half.  Bay College would shoot 50% from the floor and outrebound UW-Superior 21-11 in the first half.  The Yellowjackets would surge at the end of the half to cut into the lead, and the two teams would go to intermission with the score at 39-30.

UW-Superior would use their momentum that was gained at the end of the first half to pull within three in the early going of the second half.  Though they would never take the lead, the Yellowjackets would remain in striking distance.  With 7:12 remaining, two free throws would cut it to a 64-60 game.  The Norse defense would lock in and preserve the lead.  In the final seven minutes they would force four turnovers and give up just three points, while they would score 11 in that span to seal the 12-point victory.

Kobi Barnes (FR, Milwaukee, WI) was hot in the first half, scoring 15 points and grabbing seven rebounds before the break.  He would end the game with 25 points, 13 rebounds, and four blocks.  Dre Tuominen (FR, Negaunee, MI) would tally 22 points and seven assists, while Alonzo Fields (FR, Milwaukee, WI) would end with ten points and five rebounds.

Trevor Paulus (SO, Brule, WI) would lead the Yellowjackets, scoring 17 points and grabbing five rebounds.

The Men's Basketball team will wrap up their season on Saturday as they host Gogebic Community College.  That game is scheduled for a 3 pm tip.
