ESCANABA, MI – For the second consecutive week the Norse Baseball Team had a player recognized with a conference award.  George Cooper was recognized as the MCCAA Northern Conference Player of the Week for his efforts that helped lead Bay to a four-game sweep of the Delta College Pioneers.

Cooper (SO, Skenners Head, Australia) recorded a hit in all four games this weekend.  In the opener he picked up two hits and drove in two runs in the six-run seventh inning.  In game two he was walked twice and was one for one from the plate.  On Sunday he started off the day helping out the Norse in a comeback effort.  He drove in four runs and had two hits, one of which was a double.  He closed out the weekend with a one for four effort driving in two more runs.

For the weekend he hit .462 and drove in eight runs.  He scored twice, had a double, and was walked three times.

George also took the mound in game two and got the win.  In seven innings he gave up five hits, two runs, one of which was earned, walked two and struck out eight in a 3-2 victory.

The Norse are on the road Wednesday for an afternoon nonconference doubleheader against Milwaukee Area Technical College.  They resume conference play on Friday and Saturday against Alpena Community College.  Those games were originally scheduled to be the home opener for Bay, but field conditions have forced those games to be played on the road.
