Norse Offense Blanked

Sam O'Neal looks in for a sign from the mound

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL – The Bay College Norse Baseball Team (1-10) struggled offensively, earning just one hit in a doubleheader against McHenry County College (8-3) on Sunday afternoon.  The Scots ended up with wins by totals of 17-0 and 10-0.

Defense also failed the Norse as the opener proved to be a challenge for the Norse.  Several balls in the air that should have been potentially caught fell to the ground untouched.  Meanwhile McHenry County slugged out 13 hits in the game.

The big blow came off the bat of Dymitri Kanellikis (SO, Cary Grove, IL) who hit a grand slam to left to open up the game and chase the Norse starter Nick Goebert (SO, Werl, Germany) from the contest.

Michael Moore (SO, Vernon Hills, IL) pitched a complete game and struck out 12, while walking just one and giving up one walk.

Bay could not get anything going in the second game either as they fell behind early.  A big six run third inning gave the Scots another chance to roll to another victory.

The Norse got their lone hit of the day in the top of the fifth.  Johnnie Robinette (FR, Escanaba, MI) rolled a ground ball toward the whole and was able to beat out a throw from the shortstop.  He would be stranded in the inning.

Matt Bush (SO, Sault Ste. Marie, MI) took the loss on the mound for the Norse.  Jared Crow (SO, Gladstone, MI) pitched well in relief, giving up one unearned run in two and two thirds.

For the Scots it was Grady Gorgen (SO, Mineral Point, IL) who picked up the win on the mound.  He gave up just the one hit through five innings of work while striking out ten.

Bay completes a four-game series against McHenry County on Monday afternoon.  First pitch is scheduled for 1:30.
