RIVER GROVE, IL – The Bay Norse (2-12) ended up being swept by the Triton Trojans (8-6), losing the final two games of the series by scores of 18-2 and 14-4.

The Trojans offense set the tone early, bombarding the Norse with nine hits and nine runs in the first two innings, putting the game out of reach early on.

The Norse finally got on the board in the fourth, drawing three walks to lead off the inning.  After a strike out, Jared Crow (SO, Gladstone, MI) drew a walk to drive in the first run of the game.  They left the bases loaded in the frame.

In the fifth the Norse threatened again after three consecutive batters were hit by a pitch.  Ernesto Gomez (SO, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) scored on a throwing error, but Bay was not able to muster any more runs.

The Trojans' Logan Strutz (FR, Lockport, IL) and Brendan Barrette (FR, Oak Park, IL) combined to no-hit Bay.  Strutz struck out eight and walked six in four innings of work.

Ian Schwalbach (FR, Gladstone, MI) took the loss on the mound.

Adam Pottinger (FR, Deerfield, IL) drove in four runs for Triton.

In the second game, the Norse took their first lead of the series in the top of the first.  Tanner Halvorson (SO, Eau Claire, WI) lined a triple to the right field corner, driving in two runs.

The Trojan offense came alive in the second however, rattling off five hits.  They also took advantage of two errors and three walks in the inning, plating seven runs and taking control of the game.

Brett Morrison (FR, Pataskala, OH) extended the lead with a homerun to deep center in the third.

The Norse cut into the 8-2 lead in the fourth.  Jose Pichardo (FR, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) drove a ball to center for a double, driving in a run.  An inning later, Carson Shea (SO, Gladstone, MI) lined a single to center with runners on first and second, making the game 8-4 in favor of the Trojans.

Triton broke the game open in the fifth.  After two strikeouts, they were able to hit back-to-back doubles to drive in a run.  After a walk, the Trojans' Brock Wilken (FR, Lake in the Hills, IL) blasted a three-run shot to deep right, making the score 12-4.  The Trojans tacked on one more in the inning, and one in the sixth to end the game.

Wilken finished the game with five RBI's.

The Trojans used four different pitchers to keep Bay off balance.

Grant Craft (FR, Canberra, Australia) took the loss on the mound.  Only five of the eleven runs he surrendered were earned, and he struck out five.

Pichardo was two for three in the game.

The Norse finish off the weekend by visiting The College of Lake County on Sunday.  First pitch is scheduled for noon.
