Norse Scrimmages Against Michigan Tech Cancelled

ESCANABA, MI – The Bay College Baseball Team has cancelled the weekend scrimmages against Michigan Tech that were scheduled for October 12 and 13.

Due to a weekend forecast of temperatures in the low 40's and winds in excess of 15 mph, Head Baseball Coach Mike Pankow cited safety concerns as the reason for cancelling the scrimmages.  "Our main concern is always going to be the safety of our players," he said.  "Pitchers, and fielders for that matter, from both teams have not been in a throwing program long enough this fall to risk putting them in adverse conditions.  It just doesn't make sense to try and play in miserable conditions, encourage fans to sit in the cold, and try to force the issue with the forecast we have.  The scrimmages are meant to help us build and evaluate, and the quality of play in those conditions starts to deteriorate quickly."

The two teams have not discussed make up dates for this fall.  The Norse still have one more date on their fall scrimmage schedule.  They will host Milwaukee Area Technical College on October 19.  That doubleheader is scheduled to start at noon.
