Morrison Homers, Drives in Five, Bay Blows by Carroll

WAUKESHA, WI - The Bay College Baseball Team (6-11-1) would build a big lead and hang on to finish off an 11-5 victory over the Carroll University JV team on Friday afternoon.

Flynn Morrison (FR, Melbourne, Australia) would get the scoring started in the first.  He would launch a ball over the left field fence that would end up in the Fox River.  It ended up being the first ever Bay College homerun, and it would give Bay a 2-0 lead.  After Carroll would cut that lead in half in the second with a homerun of their own, Morrison would be back at it in the third.  This time with two outs he would line a double off of the base of the fence in left center field, driving in another run.

Bay would turn double plays in the third and fourth innings, getting themselves out of a couple of tough spots.  Then in the fifth they would get lead off singles from Owen Hanson (FR, Gladstone, MI) and Oliver Dunn (FR, Melbourne, Australia), which were followed by a walk, loading the bases with no one out.  Once again Morrison would stride to the plate and deliver, singling through the right side and driving in two more runs.  Lucas Weinert (FR, Gladstone, MI) lined a two-out single to right to pick up an RBI, and the Norse would score on a wild pitch on a strikeout that would extend the inning.  Hanson would get his second hit of the fifth inning, bringing in two more runs and capping off a six-run inning.

Bay would add to it in the sixth with a Weinert RBI double and a deep sacrifice fly off the bat of Justin Popelka (SO, Escanaba, MI).  The Norse defense would falter in the bottom of the seventh, committing four errors, one passed ball, and giving up a double to plate four runs, but they would regroup enough to get out of the inning, sealing the victory.

Morrison ended his big day three of three with a double, a home run, five RBI, three runs scored, and a walk.  Weinert also looked sharp, going four for four with two doubles, two RBI, and a run scored.  Hanson collected two hits in two at bats, with two RBI, two runs scored, a walk, and was hit by a pitch.

Tyler Skufca got the win, pitching six strong innings.  He would give up two hits, just one earned run, while striking out four and walking two.

Bay will face Bryant and Stratton College on Saturday afternoon.  First pitch for the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 pm.  Sunday's games have been postponed due to dropping temperatures.
